I loved the framing of the moon by this building when we were in New York a couple of weeks ago so I snapped a photo. Then later, I was curious so I consulted the interweb to find out what the building might be or might have been and what the letters "MSI" on the building stand for. Google helped me with a few possibilities:
And then I found this page and I threw in the towel.
- Manhattan Staten Island
- Materials Solutions, Inc.
- Microsoft Installer
- Marketing Science Institute
- Museum of Science and Industry
- Magnetic Source Imaging
- Minnesota Supercomputing Institute
- Mindless Self Indulgence
And then I found this page and I threw in the towel.

Want some help from a New Yorker? Where is the building?

@Josh: Yes! I googled til my fingers nearly bled and still couldn't figure out what it was. I believe it was right near the Fashion Institute of Technology. Somewhere around 7th Ave and 27th Street? At least that's my best recollection.

Originally the Manhattan Savings Institution (hence "THE MSI" on the facade) 644 Broadway at Bleecker was built of brownstone and cat-iron trim in 1890 by architect Stephen D. Hatch.
The building was in serious disrepair after years of neglect and in 1987 there was a complete restoration and conversion to residential loft apartments (known as the Bleecker Tower), already fetching millions of dollars in the late 1990s. It is alternately called the Atrium Building (not to be confused with The Atrium at 160 Bleecker), after clothing retailer Atrium who now occupies the ground floor.

@MB & Debra: Look at you two, putting my google skillz to shame! I mixed up the location of the picture and when I went back to the order of pics on my camera, realized it was no where near 7th Ave. Man, you just throw one red herring into your search terms and it screws up all your results.
